One of the most exciting things about the growing coffee scene in New Zealand is seeing new supply chains emerging, opening up opportunity to enjoy a wider range of coffees from more producers. One of the new importers we've had the pleasure of working with recently is Yellow Rooster Coffee Imports. First popping up on our radar when they supplied a Costa Rican coffee for our May 2021 collaboration with Meebz Coffee Roasters.

Today the dynamic duo are back, this time with a coffee from Narino, Colombia.

This is what Yellow Rooster have to say about it. (Words by Yellow Rooster Coffee Imports)

with a 14 hr. fermentation prior to being patio dried

Nariño lies in the far south of Colombia, bordering Ecuador in the high peaks of the Andes.
Due to its proximity to the equator and cooler than average temperatures, coffee can be
grown at very high altitude with many farms located on mountainsides of well over 2000
metres.

The Nariño coffee producing zone presents a combination of factors such as 1666 sunlight
hours per year and 1866mm of rainfall per year with reliable rainfall patterns. The soils have
a high percentage of organic material and thanks to the various volcanoes in the department,
there is a large amount of volcanic partials in the soil. All of these factors combined provide
us with a very unique profile in the cup, with a rich body and bright, fruity acidity.
The growers in Nariño are generally small holders in hard to reach areas which means that in
the past it has been difficult to get their coffee on the specialty coffee scene but the success of
a few growers put a spotlight on the regions high quality coffee with roasters all over the
world appreciating the complexity coffees from this region have to offer.
