Shade 14

One thing we just love about the New Zealand coffee industry is the passion that drives it. We are constantly humbled by the support shown by our collaborative partners to find us just what we need to make our vision a reality. In this case, we have a lot from Sorted Coffee that was arranged specially for the Fifteen Shades of South America showcase. Michael is no strangere to what we do, having roasted for previous collaborations with other partners before joining us in February 2021 with his own roastery, Sorted Coffee.

Today Sorted offer us a lot from Huila, Colombia.

Words by John Burton Limited:

Huila coffee is farmed near the Central and Eastern ranges of the Andes with most of it sitting in the Magdalena Valley. This location provides great variation in climate with temperatures on farms vary from 17°C to 23°C. Most of these farms are between 1,200 and 1,800 m.a.s.l. They also benefit from the nitrogen-rich volcanic soil.

According to the Colombian Coffee Grower’s Federation (FNC), in 2016 Huila produced 2.6 million 60-kilo bags, which accounted for 18% of the country’s coffee.
